Cadbury College T Level Media lecturer Andy Shaw has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to student development and industry engagement after receiving the prestigious Extra Mile Award from Midlands Hurricanes RLFC.
The award celebrates the successful partnership between Cadbury College and Midlands Hurricanes Rugby League Football Club, which has provided T Level Media students with invaluable opportunities to gain hands-on industry experience throughout the season.
Working closely with the club, students have been responsible for producing media content and supporting a range of promotional and communications activities, allowing them to apply their classroom learning in a professional sporting environment.
Real world collaborations
The collaboration has enabled students to develop practical skills in content creation, media production, digital marketing and sports communications while building their confidence within a real-world setting.
Through the partnership, students have gained first-hand experience of working to industry deadlines and producing engaging content for a live audience, helping them prepare for future careers within the creative and media sectors.
The lecturer, who received the award on behalf of the wider team, praised the students for their dedication and professionalism throughout the project.
“It has been a fantastic opportunity for the students to gain real-world experience by producing media content and supporting the club throughout the season. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and creativity have been outstanding.”
The recognition reflects not only the hard work of staff involved in coordinating the partnership, but also the commitment and talent demonstrated by the students themselves.
The award highlights the impact that employer partnerships can have in enriching students’ learning experiences, providing opportunities that go beyond the classroom and allowing learners to build industry-relevant skills and professional networks.
As Cadbury College continues to strengthen links with employers across the region, partnerships such as this play a vital role in ensuring students leave college equipped with the skills, experience and confidence needed to succeed in the workplace.
