Media students from Cadbury Sixth Form College took part in an amazing two-day work experience opportunity at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium led by sports broadcaster, stadium announcer and live event presenter Lara Davies.
This experience gave our T Level Media, Broadcast and Production learners a powerful look at the fast-paced world of live sport and media with one of our prestigious partner organisations.
Lara shared her career journey and experiences working in sports broadcasting and live events, and the opportunities available within the industry, while professional cricketer – and one of The Sandwell Colleges’ highly successful cricket education programme alumni Davina Perrin – talked about the realities of professional sport in an inspirational Q&A session.
Over the two days, students:
– Explored behind the scenes at Edgbaston, including media interview rooms, hospitality spaces and the production areas that power major sporting events
– Learned how the stadium’s big‑screen displays are operated
– Took part in scripting and presentation workshops to build confidence and communication skills
T Level Employer Coordinator, Jessica Gardner, said: “This was an outstanding opportunity for our learners to step directly into the world of professional sport and broadcasting. They gained hands‑on experience, built valuable industry knowledge and left feeling motivated, confident and excited about the career paths ahead of them. Experiences like this are exactly what help shape the next generation of media and production professionals.”
