Environmental Science students at Cadbury Sixth Form College put their classroom learning into practice on a fantastic field trip to North Yorkshire.
Learners sampled the effects of exposure to rocky shore limpets, assessed pollution in a stream using kick sampling, looked at zonation on rocky shores and assessed carbon sequestration in different types of forest to help understand how they can potentially be used to reduce global warming.
The trip culminated in a visit to Tophill Low Nature Reserve, where representatives of Yorkshire Water introduced students to the methods used to sample water pollution, biodiversity sampling in ponds and the conservation methods on site, including growing rare species of plant for reintroduction.
The students also squeezed in a short trip to Whitby to enjoy the arcades and some well-deserved fish and chips.
Lecturer Helen Churchill, who organised the field trip, said: “This was a brilliant experience full of learning, teamwork, and real-world discovery.”
