To study a BTEC level 3 course, students are required to achieve a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths & English.

You’ll be assessed through a mix of exams and practical assignments (NEA):

Exams (External Assessment)

  • Set and marked by OCR.

  • Certificate: 1 exam (Unit F200 – Fundamentals of Data Analytics).

  • Extended Certificate: 2 exams (F200 + F201 – Big Data & Machine Learning).

  • Format:

    • F200: 1h 15m, F201: 1h 30m

    • Mix of multiple-choice, short, and extended answers

    • All questions are compulsory

Assignments (NEA – Coursework)

  • Practical tasks set by OCR and marked by your teacher, then moderated.

  • Certificate: 1 NEA unit (F202 – Spreadsheet Modelling).

  • Extended Certificate: 3 NEA units (F202 + 2 optional units, e.g. Databases, Digital Marketing).

  • Format:

    • Complete assignments under supervision

    • Build a portfolio (docs, visuals, etc.)

    • Must be your own work (no plagiarism)

  • Grades: Based on meeting assessment criteria; 1 resubmission allowed per unit.

This structure gives you the chance to show what you know and what you can do in real-world IT and data tasks.
