Are you curious about how the world really works? Do you question why society is the way it is? Then A Level Sociology could be for you.

At Cadbury Sixth Form College, you’ll explore big questions about identity, family life, education, inequality, and how digital technology is changing our world. You’ll learn to think like a sociologist—analysing real-world issues, investigating social patterns, and understanding how people, groups, and institutions shape the world we live in.

Through topics like globalisation, the digital world, and social inequalities, you’ll develop powerful skills in research, debate, and critical thinking. This course is perfect if you enjoy discussing current events, want to understand people better, and are interested in careers like law, education, criminology, media, or social work.

Modules:

Unit 1: Socialisation, Culture and Identity

Unit 2: Researching social inequalities (Class, gender, ethnicity and age).

Unit 3: Contemporary Debates in sociology and education

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 and above, including Maths, with at least two at grade 6. You should have GCSE English at grade 5 and an essay-based subject at grade 6. You are not required to have studied Sociology at GCSE.

Students on this course have the opportunity to listen to talks such as:

  • Birmingham Newman University: Guest speakers and Taster sessions which were ran by the lecturers in the sociology department.
  • Birmingham University: Pip McKnight (Doctoral student at the University of Birmingham)
  • Sharing research and reflecting on ethical issues found within her research, outlining sampling techniques and life as a Post-Graduate student.
