Psychology is about understanding behaviour. Is our behaviour driven from internal or external influences or both?! Psychology is a soft-science discipline which uses research to underpin theories of behaviour. A student of Psychology must have an enquiring mind, be interested in people and culture and be able to learn, describe and evaluate theories from different perspectives. You should be able to discuss the merits of one piece of research over another and crucially be able to apply your knowledge to novel scenarios. This means you will use theories to explain examples of behaviour.
