Want to study the fascinating world of Ancient Greece and Rome? Learn about civilisations that laid the foundations for modern politics, warfare, leadership, and culture. This dynamic course explores how ancient societies rose, ruled, and fell, and how their legacies continue to influence the world today.

Through epic battles, political intrigue, and unforgettable figures like Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, and Augustus, you’ll investigate key events and turning points that transformed the ancient world. You’ll analyse both ancient literary texts and archaeological evidence — from monuments and inscriptions to coins and artefacts — while also engaging with modern historical interpretations.

Modules:

Year 1

  • The fierce rivalries between Athens and Sparta

  • Legendary clashes with Persia: Marathon, Thermopylae & Salamis

  • The Peloponnesian War and the fall of Athenian dominance

  • The birth of the Roman Empire: Augustus to Nero

Year 2

  • The fall of the Roman Republic and the rise (and fall) of Julius Caesar

  • The chaos of the Roman Civil Wars

  • The rise of the Macedonian Empire under Philip II and Alexander the Great — from obscurity to global superpower
