Music Production (RSL Certificate)

What does the course involve?

An opportunity to learn about the music industry and develop your skills as a performer, producer and engineer. If you want to specialise in a specific industry or occupation within the music industry or you have a love of music, performing and production, the RSL Level 3 Certificate in Music Production is perfect for you. Rich and varied in content, it has been designed to provide you with the specialist skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary to progress to further study and training in a range of music performance and production disciplines. It will give you a wealth of technical, practical and theoretical knowledge of musicianship, repertoire, rehearsal, promotion, and live/recorded performance that you can then apply to real-world scenarios – whether it’s in audio production, electronic music production, mixing, editing, mastering or sound for media.

Course Outline

Learning is practical and structured, giving you the flexibility to specialise in different disciplines directly relevant to employment within the music industry.
Tailored to your strengths, this qualification allows you to choose your area of specialism, from Audio Production, Electronic Music Production and Sound for Media, whilst earning valuable UCAS points for entry to higher education.
You’ll learn about the skills of producers and marketers, or look behind the scenes at sound engineering and lighting. Our aim is to give you a broad range of the music industry, with as much hands-on experience as possible. We try to tailor the course to your individual needs and what you want from the course.
You will develop your song-writing skills and have many opportunities to play your original material to audiences across a city whose heritage boasts the likes of UB40 and Black Sabbath. The course includes workshops with industry specialists in various subjects including production, composition and the music business. We can help provide you with work experience opportunities at venues and festivals around the region, as all tutors teaching on the course still work professionally in the music industry as performers, producers or engineers – some with more than 25 years’ experience.

Assessment
If you are on the Performance pathway, you will take one externally assessed core unit: Rehearsal & Performance.
