A Level courses are predominantly assessed by examinations, although some subjects may have a coursework component as well. All A Level courses are linear, meaning examinations are taken at the end of two years. These are Level 3 courses, ideally suited for progression to University or Higher-Level Apprenticeships.
To study an A Level course, you will need a minimum of five GCSEs (with two at grade 6, and three at grade 4). Due to the advanced level, most subjects will have additional individual entry requirements. Please consult the specific course pages below for more details.
A Levels (Advanced Levels) are subject-based qualifications studied after GCSEs, typically between ages 16-18. They are one of the most common routes to university, higher apprenticeships, and professional careers. Each subject is studied in depth, allowing you to specialise in areas you enjoy.
Our AS courses are studied over one year, however, our full A Level courses are studied over two years.
Most students study 3 A Levels. Some students may take 4 A Levels (if they have strong GCSE results).
Entry requirements vary, but typically include at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths & English and higher grades (usually 5-7) in subjects you want to study. Competitive subjects (e.g. Maths, Sciences) often require higher grades.
A Levels are mainly assessed through final exams at the end of Year 2. Some subjects may include coursework or practical assessments.
Each A Level grade is worth UCAS points:
A* = 56 points
A = 48 points
B = 40 points
C = 32 points
D = 24 points
E = 16 points
Your total UCAS points help universities assess your application.
Yes, A Levels are the main route to university in the UK. Universities make offers based on your predicted grades and your final A Level results. Many courses require specific subjects (e.g. Maths for engineering).
A wide range of subjects are available, including Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Maths and Further Maths, Business and Economic, Languages (French, Italian, Spanish), Creative subjects (Graphic Communication, Textiles, Photography) and many more.
A Levels are academic and subject-based. T Levels are more career-focused and include an industry placement. A Levels are ideal if you want to keep your options open or go to university.
A Levels are more challenging than GCSEs because you study subjects in greater depth, there is more independent learning, and final exams carry significant weight. With the right subject choices and support, they are very achievable.
After completing A Levels, you can progress to university, degree apprenticeships, and employment. They provide a flexible foundation for many different career paths.
When choosing your subjects, consider your interests and strengths, your future career or university plans, subject requirements for specific courses.
