Cadbury Sixth Form College’s AS 3D Design students recently enjoyed an inspiring and eye-opening visit to Birmingham City University (BCU), where they took part in a series of engaging workshops designed to broaden their understanding of the creative industries and the world of higher education.
The visit offered students the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in hands-on sessions within the fields of Architecture and Product Design, led by experienced university staff. They explored the vital relationship between structure, form, and function, and how these concepts shape and drive innovation in the design world. Students were guided through the creative process — from initial concept and idea generation to the development of industry-ready outcomes — gaining valuable insight into the professional practices that underpin careers in design and architecture.
As part of the visit, students had the chance to work in specialist studios and use cutting-edge facilities, giving them a real sense of what studying a creative subject at degree level is like. The experience helped them to see how the skills they are developing at Cadbury College can be applied in a university context and eventually in a wide range of creative careers.
By taking learning beyond the classroom, we’re helping to nurture the next generation of designers, architects, and creative thinkers — giving them the tools, inspiration, and motivation to succeed.
