During her second year, Emma completed the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which is highly regarded by universities. Emma undertook an in-depth study and comparison of current nurse training with training in the 1950's. Emma produced a detailed and well-researched study which included some interesting and informative primary research looking at perceptions of nursing then and now. The Extended Project Moderators were particularly impressed and Emma was awarded a prize for the Extended Project Qualification at the annual college awards ceremony.

As part of his final project, Oscar chose the theme "small spaces" and developed design ideas, plans and a model for a small house: "The course enabled me to choose a project that I was interested in and that would reflect the skills needed for architecture. I learnt so much on the course and am now really excited about going to university."

EY (Ernst and Young) - School Leaver Programme

Speaking about his time at Cadbury College, Ben said: “College is very different from school and you have to be ready to take the challenge. It offers a fresh start, new opportunities and specialist teaching. I wanted to progress into a professional career, but did not want to go to university. The opportunity with Ernst and Young is the launchpad for my career in finance.”

Ben achieved one of only eighty places nationally and joined EY’s School Leaver Programme; a structured five-year programme for school leavers that provides training, support to gain professional qualifications and hands on experience in the business world. At the end of the five-year programme, Ben will be a qualified accountant.

She was a dedicated student who also undertook voluntary work for the British Heart Foundation and was also a student ambassador. She studied Accounts for the first time at college which sparked her enthusiasm for the subject and influenced her choice of university and career plans.During her time at the college, Tasnim applied to university via the Access to Birmingham (A2B) programme and was successfully awarded 2 scholarships amounting to over £30,000 worth of support for the duration of her degree studies at the University of Birmingham: “I came to Cadbury because I wanted a fresh start and a place where I could be focused on my studies. I have loved my time here, not only the subjects I have studied but also the good friends I have made and the opportunities to take part in different activities.”

Ronneil was awarded an OCR Bursary to help him make the most of the opportunity to study at one of the world’s top universities. The bursary is only awarded to ten students in the West Midlands and amounts to £3,000 per year for the lifetime of his undergraduate programme at the University of Cambridge.

Atos - Higher Level Apprenticeship in Systems Integration

As well as working for the global IT specialist, the Higher Level Apprenticeship means Amaniah will work towards a Higher National Diploma (HND) Level 4 qualification in Software Engineering.

Although a lot of her friends went to university, Amaniah decided on a different route to reach her goal. She explains: “At first I wanted to go to university but when I looked into what apprenticeships offer I decided they are a great option and will still allow me to go to university in the future”.

After a successful Gap Year, she progressed onto a five year medicine degree at Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia. Competition for places at medical school is fierce. Even though Sana got the grades she needed, she was unable to secure a place so took a Gap Year and re-applied: “My back-up plan was to do pharmacy but after a lot of thought I decided to follow my dream and stick to medicine”. Sana used her year out to gain work experience to strengthen her application to medical school. She spent time volunteering at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and worked full-time at doughnut maker Krispy Kreme. Sana explained: “The year out really helped me grow as a person and built my confidence. The different experiences enhanced my university application and I had a lot to talk about at interviews”.
